Awards and Recognitions

The Center for Oncology at Halifax Health Medical Center is the second oldest accredited cancer program in the State of Florida, having been accredited through the American College of Surgeons in 1956.

In 1998, Stereotactic Radiosurgery, the most precise, non-invasive method of reaching tumors and other problem areas deep within the brain, was first introduced to the Central Florida region by Halifax Health.

National Research Corporation has named Halifax Health Medical Center as Volusia and Flagler counties 'most preferred' hospital, presenting us with their Consumer's Choice Award every year since 1996.

The Center for Oncology is the first radiation oncology facility certified by the American College of Radiology and is currently certified by the American College of Radiation Oncology.

Advanced Treatments

Halifax Health - Center for Oncology is a leader in oncology treatment advancements. Several of our recognized accomplishments include:

  • Being the first and only dedicated inpatient oncology unit in our area
  • Creating the first clinical trial/research program - Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP), a network for conducting cancer prevention and treatment clinical trials through a federal grant in 1984
  • Offering the first Cancer Genetics program in our area
  • The first and only da Vinci robotic surgery system to cover multiple counties
  • The first and only full time GYN Oncology program treating multiple counties
  • The first Stereotactic Radiosurgery program
  • The first nuclear oncology program The first use of PET/CT for radiation oncology patient simulations for radiation therapy treatments
  • The first treatment with partial breast radiation therapy, including both the first use of the mammosite device and the first use of the SAVI device
  • The first use of robotic radiation therapy
