Chase, Bailey Named Joe Petrock Auxiliary Volunteers of the Month for September and October 2019

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – (October 24, 2019) – Walter Chase of New Smyrna Beach and Martha Bailey of South Daytona have been named the Joe Petrock Auxiliary Volunteers of the Month for September and October 2019, respectively, by the Halifax Health-Auxiliary.

Walter Chase has been a Halifax Health volunteer since October 2016 where he began as a patient ambassador in the Emergency Department before finding his passion as a therapy dog handler in December of that same year.   He has volunteered 138 hours with the hospital’s therapy dog program and has taken on the photography for the program.  Chase spends his time taking pictures of the therapy dog program’s new members and passes them on to the Marketing Communications Department so they may be used on visitation cards and in other program materials.

“We are very glad to have Walter as a part of our team.  He gives of his time and talent to our new and upcoming handlers with the photos he shares not only with our handlers, but with the Marketing Communications Department, to ensure our visitors receive the visitation cards with the dog’s information and picture alike,” explains Cynthia Rose, president of the Halifax Health-Auxiliary.

Martha Bailey is a former Halifax Health employee, having retired from the Facility Operations Construction Department in October 2016.  In 2017, she decided to return to Halifax Health as a volunteer in the construction office.  She later moved to the Gift Shop where she currently donates her time.  In just over two years, Bailey has logged 1,222 volunteer hours.

“Martha is always offering a helping hand to those who enter the Gift Shop as well as working timeless hours in the Gift Shop stock room.  She is a true gift and a valued volunteer.  She gives true meaning to the word dedication for returning to her former workplace in a volunteer role.  She is appreciated for her time and dedication,” says Rose.

Along with the honor of being named Volunteers of the Month, Chase and Bailey each received a gift card and are nominees for the auxiliary’s Volunteer of the Year award.
