University High Students Tour Halifax Health Deltona Emergency Department

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – (December 21, 2017) – Medical Academy students from University High School in Orange City recently toured the Halifax Health Emergency Department of Deltona to learn first-hand about the significant procedures of emergency medicine.  Tonja Williams, operations director for Halifax Health Emergency Department of Deltona, led the tour and explained the various functions of the emergency department.

Jessica Clayton, University High Medical Academy instructor, has incorporated emergency medicine into the bio-medical curriculum with each student being required to design an emergency department, including equipment, staff and budget.  Prior to touring Halifax Health’s Deltona Emergency Department, the students visited Halifax Health’s Emergency Department in Daytona Beach, trauma rooms and helipad.  The visit enabled students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare to observe the operation of the only Level II Trauma service in Volusia County.

Halifax Health provides ongoing opportunities for Volusia County secondary school students who are participating in medical academies and medical programs to visit Halifax Health medical centers and to learn directly from medical professionals.
