Question: Halifax Health has been your local healthcare provider since 1928. What has Halifax Health done for your community lately?

Answer:

  • In fiscal year 2009, (FY 09) Halifax Health provided significant benefits to the community resulting in a net contribution of $33.2 million to ensure quality care for the residents of Volusia and Flagler counties.
  • What does "net contribution" mean? It means that Halifax Health spent $74.8 million caring for patients in FY09. Halifax Health collected $41.6 million of that in taxes. That left $33.2 million, more than 44 percent of the total cost, as a direct cost to Halifax Health.
  • In FY09 the organization spent $31.8 million serving uninsured patients alone; this figure does not include the more than $26 million spent in Medicaid and Medicare deficits.
  • Serving as the area's only Level II Trauma Center, Halifax Health Medical Center spent $4.6 million caring for trauma patients.
  • Halifax Health is devoted to ensuring the wellbeing of its community members. More than $1 million was contributed to preventative health services including local clinics and programs such as Healthy Kids.
  • For more than 80 years, Halifax Health has provided high-quality healthcare to you and your community. The next 80 will just get better.
