Knee Replacement

Our orthopedic experts have completed thousands of joint replacement surgeries, making our program one of the largest and most experienced in Central Florida. From partial to total joint replacements, from minimally invasive procedures, using laparoscopic techniques to traditional open procedures, each orthopedic patient receives treatment and care with their best interests in mind.

Total Knee Replacement

Total knee replacement surgery provides relief for patients with severe pain caused by degeneration of the cartilage in the knee, advanced arthritis, or serious knee injuries. Approximately 85 to 90 percent of all total knee replacement operations performed are successful for 10 to 15 years, depending on the patient's level of activity. Our orthopedic specialists perform the latest procedures using the most innovative surgical techniques, to help you return as quickly as possible to the quality of life that you deserve.

Partial Knee Replacement

Up until now, patients with painful knee problems had often been given only two options for their knees. They could either live with the debilitating pain, or they could have their whole knee replaced.

Ask your physician about Halifax Health's innovative "same day" partial knee replacement surgery. Today, patients have surgery and go home that same day, walking independently, bearing weight, bending and straightening the knee. This new and exiting procedure is called a partial or "unicompartmental&rdqou; knee replacement.

What causes knee pain?

Over time, degenerative changes or injury causes damage to structures in the knee, causing pain and discomfort, and limiting normal activities. One of these conditions, called osteoarthritis, causes the cartilage that normally helps to cushion the bones to wear down, making the bones rub together, which causes pain. Other conditions that may lead to total knee replacement surgery are rheumatoid arthritis and post-traumatic arthritis. Your physician may first try conservative treatment with pain medication, weight management and physical therapy. However, knee replacement surgery may become necessary in some patients.

What are the benefits of knee replacement?

Knee conditions limit a patient's activities of daily living due to pain and limited mobility. A benefit of knee replacement surgery is that it may be able to help patients resume a normal, active, healthy lifestyle, free from deliberating pain.
