Breast Health Center

Breast cancer is the most commonly occurring female cancer, affecting women of all ages and races. The Halifax Breast Health Center provides women with information and services that can lead to early detection and successful treatment of breast cancer. With the combination of Board Certified physicians, state of the art equipment, the patient resource library, access to ongoing clinical trials, psychosocial support services and a hereditary cancer risk assessment program; we achieve a high level of satisfaction in meeting the needs of our patients and their families.

At the Halifax Breast Health Center, women and their family members have a coordinated range of services in a supportive and comfortable environment. The Center brings together a multi-disciplinary team of breast cancer specialists comprised of multiple medical specialties. On our team there are Radiologists, several surgeons and a fellowship trained Breast Surgeon, 6 Medical Oncologists, 2 Radiation Oncologists and 3 Pathologists. This team meets on a weekly basis to review patient cases for accurate diagnosis and optimal treatment recommendations.

The Center and its affiliates offer diagnostic and treatment services for both benign and cancerous conditions including: a point of contact for physicians and their patients; educational information on all aspects of breast health and cancer; and the use of state-of-the-art mammography, ultrasound and stereotactic-guided core biopsies in the detection or diagnosis of breast cancer.

Multi-disciplinary diagnosis and treatment consultations are available and opportunities to participate in new breast cancer research based treatments (clinical trials), as well as the new Hereditary Cancer Risk Program that utilizes genetic testing to aid in the management for patients are all on site.

Lymphedema management is available from certified therapists; and psychosocial and rehabilitative services are a core component of our program. Patients and families can make use of the Josephine Field Davidson resource library that is staffed by volunteers. On site there are several support groups that meet regularly.

Halifax Medical Center, the region's leader in focused breast health care, is committed to providing women all of the resources necessary for monitoring breast health and for effectively treating breast cancer. Our aim is to continually offer the highest quality care and excellence in service.
