Halifax Health is pleased to offer the highest level of trauma support to the Daytona Beach area. We have physicians and nurses available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week who are specialized in critical medicine, as well as the support of a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons and ophthalmologists among others.
The program was established in 1983 as a result of state legislation and is the sixth busiest of its kind in the state. In 2008, Halifax Health's Trauma Center is celebrating 25 years of service to East Central Florida.
Halifax Health serves as one of 10 Acute Care Designated Brain and Spinal Injury Programs (BSCIP) under the Florida Department of Health. BSCIPs collaborate to provide acute care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, transitional living services, adaptive equipment, home modifications, and other services necessary for community reintegration.
Halifax Health maintains a partnership with NASA as well as NASCAR, and works closely with local first responders including area law enforcement, emergency management and emergency medical service providers to ensure a coordinated response.
Trauma teams include surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, specialists and a large number of support staff working in conjunction with different areas of the hospital.
Unintentional injuries, or traumas, are the leading cause of death for people up to the age of 44 and the fifth leading cause of death overall.
The Halifax Health Trauma Center participates in community-wide injury prevention initiatives, working with local partners including the Volusia/Flagler SAFE KIDS Coalition.
