The Mission of Halifax Health - Center for Transplant Services is to provide professionally integrated, expert medical and surgical treatment and follow-up care for our patients. In accordance with the vision and mission of Halifax Health Medical Center, the Center for Transplant Services will meet the needs of transplant candidates, living donors, transplant recipients and their families by ensuring excellence, accessibility, and compassion.
Organ Donation
There are close to 100,000 patients waiting for an organ. Less than 30,000 patients are transplanted each year. Our need for organs is growing at a much faster rate than our supply of organs. This organ shortage increases Medicare costs, increases patient wait time, and worsens the prognosis of end stage renal disease patients waiting for a kidney.
