What is BMI?
BMI is a statistical measure of the relationship between a person's height and weight. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) defines the ideal range for an adult as a BMI between 19 and 24.9*.

A BMI of 25-29.9 is considered overweight. A BMI of 30-34.9 is considered obese. Obesity increases your risk for serious conditions
such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. If your BMI indicates that you are overweight or obese, you may want to consider
Halifax Health's Weight Management Program.
If you are overweight by approximately 100 pounds or more or have a BMI greater than 35, you may qualify for our
Bariatric Surgery Program. We offer an individualized program of diet, surgery and exercise that will result in an overall life change, an improvement in health and a path toward total wellness.
*While the ranges above are accurate for most people, they may not work for everyone. Being particularly muscular or athletic could increase your BMI.
