Physicians associated with the Regional Oncology Centers represent a comprehensive array of oncology specialties – gynecologic, medical and radiation. Affiliations with national research centers enable these physicians to offer patients the very latest and most promising treatments available through national research trials. Nurses, therapists and other healthcare professionals dedicated to caring for cancer patients are also a part of the oncology team.
Individualized Treatment
Every Regional Oncology Center team member is focused on designing a treatment plan that is tailored to each patient’s specific needs. Cancer treatment is highly individualistic and depends on the patient’s type of cancer, stage of his/her cancer and overall health and medical condition.
Treatment plans are based on the physician and patient’s ultimate goal of curing the disease, keeping the cancer from spreading or relieving the symptoms caused by cancer. Treatment options available include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormonal therapy and targeted therapy. A patient’s care plan may involve one or more of these options.
Diagnosing cancer early is the key to achieving the best possible outcome for the patient. Halifax Health offers a complete menu of screening and diagnostic tests for breast, cervical, colon, lung, melanoma, ovarian, prostate and uterine cancer.
