According to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education's (ACGME) Surgery Program Requirements, "the faculty must establish and maintain an environment of inquiry and scholarship with an active research component." Halifax Health - General Surgery Residency Program is committed to maintaining an ongoing forum for scholarly discussion and research development in collaboration with other academicians and physicians.
Faculty members encourage and support residents in scholarly activities and collectively document active involvement in scholarly activity. The ACGME also stipulates that not all members of the faculty must be investigators, however, clinical and/or basic science research must be:
- Ongoing in the residency program
- Based at the institution where residents spend the majority of their clinical time
- Performed by faculty with frequent, direct resident involvement
In this document you will find a demonstration of the Faculty's commitment to scholarly activity. This commitment will be shared with each and every General Surgery Resident at Halifax Health.
