Halifax Health Most Accredited Heart Program in Florida

When it comes to matters of the heart, East Central Florida residents can rest assured they’re getting the best care possible at Halifax Health — which is now the most accredited cardiac program in Florida.

Halifax Health was recently awarded another Gold Seal of Approval for quality cardiac care. It achieved a Joint Commission Disease- Specific Care Certification in Congestive Heart Failure and is now the only facility in the state to receive the same designation in Coronary Bypass/Open-Heart Surgery.

“These certifications mean that we are continuously working to improve our services and provide world class healthcare to our community,” said Matt Petkus, Director of Cardiac Services at Halifax Health.

To earn this distinction, a disease-management program undergoes an extensive, unannounced, on-site evaluation by a team of Joint Commission reviewers every two years. The program is evaluated against Joint Commission standards through an assessment of a program’s processes, its ability to evaluate and improve care within the organization, and interviews with patients and staff.

Halifax Health also received its Disease- Specific Care Certification in Acute Myocardial Infarction — or heart attack care — in October 2007. It was accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers in April 2008.
