Halifax Health — Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Helps Loved
Ones Cope

“We believe offering support to family members and loved ones after a loss is an important part of serving our community,” said Karen Grant, Children’s Program Coordinator, The Lawrence E. Whelan BeginAgain Children’s Grief Center. “These programs and services give people an opportunity to deal with their grief in their own way, with help from our trained and caring experts.”
Halifax Health — Hospice of Volusia/Flagler offers the following programs:
The Traumatic Loss Program helps local residents who have lost an individual or multiple loved ones to war, terrorism, natural disaster, homicide, accidents, suicide or an injury in the line of duty. This program meets the special needs of those who are faced with the sudden and unexpected loss of a loved one.
The Lawrence E. Whelan BeginAgain Children’s Grief Centers provide a safe environment where children ages 4 to 18 and their families can express grief in a supportive and caring atmosphere — an important part of the healing process. Activities are geared toward each child’s individual needs. Centers are located in Daytona Beach and DeLand, and plans are under way to soon open another location in Flagler County.
Camp BeginAgain is a weekend retreat offered twice a year for children ages 6 to 18 who have recently experienced the death of a loved one. The camp combines recreational and sharing activities while creating special bonds among campers who are experiencing similar emotions.
The Family Caregiver Program provides professional caregivers for a patient. That gives a patient’s main caregiver the chance to rest and refuel — so he or she can continue taking care of a loved one. Eight luncheons are held throughout Volusia and Flagler counties each year so caregivers can get together and share experiences and discuss caregiving issues.
