Open for Business: Halifax Health’s North Tower

“It’s a welcoming lighthouse for people lost on stormy waters, a beacon of hope for the injured and sick. When our community is in need of medical care, all they have to do is look up to the tower.”
— Dan Lang, Administrator, Halifax Health Medical Center

The belvedere is lit at night and can be seen for miles.
In April 2007, Halifax Health broke ground on the 10-story inpatient North Tower at the Daytona Beach campus. In December 2008, the belvedere high atop the new structure was lit. And in the summer of 2009, the North Tower will open its doors to the community.

The tower adds 180 private rooms.
Halifax Health offers comprehensive, high-quality care to area residents. To continue building on this service to East Central Florida, the North Tower will offer:
  • Expanded services
  • Increased privacy
  • Additional capacity

Highlights include:

The spacious atrium offers sitting areas for families and visitors.
More private rooms — The construction of the North Tower will add 180 private rooms to the Halifax Health Medical Center campus in Daytona Beach. These private suites include space for family members to stay comfortably, with recliners and sleeper sofas. The rooms also feature recessed lighting for nighttime nurse status checks and windows that can withstand the winds of a Category 5 hurricane.

The building can withstand winds from a Category 5 hurricane.
More space for emergency care — Halifax Health offers the area’s only Trauma Center and Pediatric Emergency Department. The new Emergency Department (ED), located on the ground floor of the North Tower, will occupy 89,000 square feet and include 107 treatment rooms — making the department four times the size of the current ED and the largest in Florida. Eight state-of-the-art module units of 12 rooms each will provide exceptional care for a variety of illnesses and injuries and will include a Rapid Admissions Unit and a Chest Pain Center. Read more about the ED on Page 10.

The new inpatient tower is 10 stories high.
More parking — For the convenience of our patients, the North Tower construction project includes more than 650,000 square feet of surface parking. The additional parking areas are to the north and west of the Tower.

Nurses’ stations are located with patient safety in mind.
On June 13, we will mark our next milestone with “The Halifax Health Experience” — an open house for the new Emergency Department and North Tower. Neighbors, community leaders, family caregivers, doctors, nurses and employees are all invited to experience the world class healthcare offered at Halifax Health.
