Halifax Health Offers Rehab for Neurological Conditions

Navigating the long road of rehabilitation after a stroke or a brain or spine injury can be challenging. The Halifax Health — Center for Neurosciences makes things easier for patients and their loved ones by offering comprehensive neurorehabilitative services under one roof.

“We’ve tried to make it so people have one place where they can come and get all the services they need, instead of having to go to multiple places,” explained Carolyn Geis, MD, Medical Director of the neurorehabilitation program.

A team of specially trained physicians, nurses, psychologists and physical, occupational and speech therapists provides services for people with a variety of neurological conditions, including:

  • Stroke
  • Brain injury or tumor
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Muscular dystrophy
People with these conditions often have balance and speech problems, in addition to difficulty standing, walking and returning to work. The center offers a variety of sophisticated treatments and therapy to help them build strength, independence and self-esteem.

“Because people come here regularly to work with therapists and specialists, the care is very coordinated,” Dr. Geis said. “We help people through this long and arduous process and build relationships along the way.”
