Halifax Health Board Approves Sale of Florida Health Care Plan
At their August 28 public meeting, the seven-member Halifax Health Board of Commissioners unanimously approved plans for the sale of Florida Health Care Plan, Inc. (FHCP) to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida (BCBSF) for $85 million.
A specific date for the closing of the sale will be set following a period of due diligence and regulatory approvals. Once the transaction is completed, Florida Health Care Plan will continue its present operations and organization as a community-based, locally managed health plan available to residents of Volusia and Flagler counties. All of FHCP’s members will have immediate access to the expanded statewide and nationwide network of BCBSF services and healthcare providers.
“The board’s decision to approve this sale is consistent with our commitment to expand access for members and will ensure the continued high-quality care for which Florida Health Care Plan is known,” said Jeff Feasel, President and CEO of Halifax Health. “This is in the best interests of FHCP members, employees and physicians, as well as Halifax Health and the communities we serve.”
The transaction includes a continuation of FHCP’s present operations and structure as a locally managed, community-based healthcare plan.
