Michael Harrington, MD: Dedicated to Serving Central Florida

More than 25 years ago, Michael Harrington and his colleague George Delaughter knew this community was lacking a much-needed medical service.

“We felt the trauma services in this area were totally disorganized,” Dr. Harrington said. “Having previously trained at a major trauma center, I had the expertise to help.”

Dr. Harrington still takes calls with Halifax Health’s Trauma Center. He admits there were challenges in the beginning.

“There were numerous obstacles involving committee approvals, evaluations and certifications,” Dr. Harrington recalled.

But he cannot stress enough the importance of having a trauma center nearby. “The community isn’t aware of the services we have here at Halifax. So many people would not have survived if it weren’t for the work and sacrifice that has gone into building this program.”

An associate with Surgical Associates of Volusia, Dr. Harrington is board certified in general surgery and has a special certification in vascular surgery.
