Caring for Caregivers:

Halifax Health — Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Offers Support

Caring for someone nearing the end of life can be a meaningful yet challenging experience. To make sure caregivers have the support they need, Halifax Health — Hospice of Volusia/Flagler offers the Family Caregiver Program. It provides respite care, luncheons and education for caregivers.

Periodic breaks can be a welcome relief for caregivers who provide daily care for a loved one. That’s why the program offers respite care, which is provided by trained volunteers and professionals.

Educational luncheons offer support from the staff, volunteers and other family caregivers involved with Halifax Health — Hospice of Volusia/Flagler staff. Luncheons are held twice a year at four different locations — Palm Coast, Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach and the DeLand area — for a total of eight each year.

“The luncheons are an opportunity for a caregiver to get out and talk with others who are in the same situation,” said Suzie Sopotnick, who works in Volunteer Services for Halifax Health — Hospice of Volusia/Flagler “It gives them a chance to relax, enjoy themselves and have a nice meal while interacting with others who can relate to what they’re going through.”

If you’re caring for a loved one, don’t forget to take care of yourself. To learn more about the support provided by the Family Caregiver Program, call 800.272.2717.
